Is recycling in 3D printing becoming mainstream?
MEER 3D Technologies

Under the name“Creality Filastudio”, it is currently being investigated whether the time is right for an affordable recycling system right on the desktop.

What is the Creality Filastudio?

It is a concept study consisting of two devices: theShredder R1and theFilament Maker M1. The idea behind it is a closed loop:

  • Old prints and support structures are shredded.

  • The resulting granulate is directly extruded into new, printable filament.

Crowdfunding: The community decides

Since the project is running through a crowdfunding campaign, we are in an exciting phase between market research and market launch. Creality is using this approach to gauge the genuine interest of the maker scene.

For us, this means:

  1. Innovation up close:We can already see today which technologies could become standard in our workshops tomorrow.

  2. Sustainability in focus:The topic of “Green Printing” is finally being taken seriously as a concept by the major manufacturers.

  3. Co-creating:Crowdfunding projects thrive on the feedback of the first supporters who help eliminate the teething problems of such new systems.

What does this mean for makers in Switzerland?

The Filastudio is not yet a product that you can simply add to your cart in our shop. It is a promise for the future. If the campaign is successful and mass production starts, it could fundamentally change the way we consume materials.

Imagine you would never have to dispose of a box of misprints again, but could simply make the next roll of filament for your prototypes from it.

Conclusion

We atmeer3d.chare closely monitoring the developments around the Filastudio. It is a bold concept that shows the direction our industry is moving: away from disposable plastics and towards a circular economy.

What do you think about such crowdfunding projects?Would you invest in your own recycling system, or would you prefer to continue buying ready-made filament in the usual quality? Let us know in the comments!
